“I’m in love with red. I think it’s such a passionate color. Every flag of every country pretty much has red it it. It’s power, there’s no fence sitting with red. Either you love it or you don’t. I think its blood and strength and life. I do love red. I love all colors. Great shades of blue, you find them in nature. They’re all magic.”

I was struggling to find something to write about today (because of #NaBloPoMo2015). None of the daily prompts inspired me and I didn’t want to write anything too epic after some pretty intensive computer work today. So I went for a wander around the internet for inspiration and ended up staring at my laptop, which is red, and I got thinking about colours.
When I was at primary school it seemed like everyone had a favourite colour at some point or other. Some flitted around the colour wheel depending on on what was considered “cool”. Others were more loyal to their chosen hue. Me? I just generally avoided saying that I liked the “wrong” colour, whether it was pink or green or blue. Then again sometimes it felt like what I liked was automatically going to to be the colour that no one else thought was the “right” one. That is not what this post is about though.
“Red is one of the strongest colors, it’s blood, it has a power with the eye. That’s why traffic lights are red I guess, and stop signs as well… In fact I use red in all of my paintings.”
I dream in colour. My concept of time is, literally, coloured. August is a dusty orange, May a deep dark green, February a blue-white, April clear clear blues. You get the idea. I found it quite difficult to determine my favourite colour with all of that going on.
It actually took me until my mid-thirties to realise that I had a favoured colour (if not favourite). It has come about for the exact reason one of our teachers told us she knew what her favourite colour(s) was – it is what suits me.
Which is why it seemed appropriate to start with my Colour Scrap series with a post about red.
What’s your favourite colour?
This post is part of my #NaBloPoMo2015 effort – I’m on day three of a thirty day streak blogging run (hopefully). Maybe I’ll see you back here again tomorrow too…?
